Some rumors make sense. Chivas USA need a playmaker and a star to attract fans. Bofo Bautista is out of contract at the end of the Clausura. I didn’t start this rumor, but I have been watching it closely.

The idea of Bofo playing for Chivas USA is mind bottling. You know… when you thoughts are so crazy it’s like your mind is trapped in a bottle. The striker/attacking midfielder would add a dimension to the game and the squad unseen in MLS. He would put people in stands and add to an already strong team.

The only issue is trading for a Designated Player spot. Who (or what) would Chivas USA have to give up for a DP spot? Who would you give up? Galindo? Razov? Wicky?

As reported by La Red Deportiva, PrensaLibre and La Opinion, Freddy Thompson, Guatemalan national team captain and long time Comunicaciones player is reportedly on his way to L.A. to train with coach Preki. If you’re wondering why we didn’t see him in the 2007 Gold Cup, it’s because he was recovering from a knee injury. Earlier this year there were a few rumors of him going to Europe, but finally signed with Comunicaciones’s rival, Municipal. I honestly can’t say much since I’ve never seen him play. Perhaps some of you can chime in with your thoughts on Thompson? I’ll leave you with o’ so precious quotes.

Another rough translation by yours truly:
From LaOpinion:

“Next week freddy will come to train. Preki wants him to see the medical staff to check his knee. If he’s healthy, he will be the first re-enforcement for the second half of the MLS season. He still has no contract”, said the coach

“Coming to MLS is one of the goals I’ve set for my self for this year and hopefully it’ll be taken care of soon”, said Thompson.

From PrensaLibre:

“The negotiations were between MLS and us, since there is a clause in Freddy’s Municipal contract that allows him to sign with a foreign club at any moment, given that said foreign club helps the player to leave without any problems”, said the representative.

As reported by Mediotiempo on June 15th, the Chivas Guadalajara GM and vice president are off to Spain to accomplish number of things, one of the more relevant goals is to sign Zidane to Chivas USA.

Hold or don’t hold your breath, it’s still one of the most credible reports I’ve read on Zidane coming from the Chivas franchise.

Rough translation on the mighty sentence.

Finally, he (Chivas vice president) mentioned the case of Zinedine Zidane is another goal to accomplish in this trip, the proposal is on the table, we just want to meet in person to decide once and for all.

Well the most overrated and overpaid player in the history of sports looks to have been denied a knighthood, because no one can find a reason to make him knight. How great is that, Becks and the stick must need a lot of retail therapy to overcome this one, being snubbed by the Crown.

It would also seem that a lot of the problem stems from the fact that he will be making his salary in the US and not in Britain,

Although Beckham’s name has been put forward, some believe it should not be approved at a time when he will be earning his main income and paying tax in the U.S.

But as we have seen that is not the main argument, as everyone is coming out of the woodwork to try and stop the knighthood. Most people are claiming that Becks has not done enough, which I agree with, and does not warrant an honor. According to thisislondon,

Former England defender Alan Mullery MBE said Beckham had not done enough to deserve a knighthood.

“If Bobby Moore, who led England to World Cup glory, cannot become a knight of the realm, then I don’t think David Beckham should.”

I would have to agree, a player that had only one good season in his entire career does not deserve knighthood, regardless how many times he changes his hair. Beck haters throughout the world are rejoicing as Lalas’ baby has been taken down a notch again.

Wow I feel slimy writing this post, maybe I should send my resume into the Enquirer or The Sun.

As everyone has most likely noticed, today is a pretty quiet day for soccer news. The day after Memorial Day, people are waking up slowly with hangovers and the realization that work must start up again. Soccer is the farthest thing from most people’s minds as they rummage around looking for the aspirin bottle and something to make the pain go away.

But do not fret, I am still here, hangover free providing you with some news and analysis on Chivas USA. I had been gone for a few weeks due to school, so now I am trying to make up for lost time. As was noted in a previous post, Chivas USA will soon be without the services of Jonathan Bornstein, due to the Gold Cup. Thus, who could possibly replace Bornstein in the back-line and provide much needed defense for the goats?

In my opinion, there is a little known youth player on the roster that has not gotten much attention and could possibly be the answer to our problems; Eder Robles. The 19 year old defender was first discovered by Chivas USA’s u-19 youth team, where he performed at an extremely high level and helped lead the team to a birth in the Copa Saprissa tournament. Following this success, Robles was offered a developmental contract and has been on the squad since 2006. In fact, Robles was a crucial part of Chivas’ 2-1 win over UC Irvine, during the off-season, when he scored both goals.

As you can see, Robles is a solid player that would help to bolster the Chivas backfield and could potentially be a future star for the team. Understandably, Robles is still very young and has a lot to learn, yet there is no harm in trying to exploit his talent for the benefit of the team.

————-

I have decided that I will be trying to create a few future posts detailing the background of the youth players on Chivas USA.

This is just a small rumor, but I heard this from a reliable source of mine. It would seem that Jonathan Bornstein is becoming fed up with the MLS and has a great desire to leave for Europe. As the play in MLS continues to decline and the salaries continue to stay stagnant, it would seem there is a desire in Bornstein to look for greater possibilities in Europe.

As we all saw a month or so ago, there is a great disparity in the MLS salaries, with the bulk of the money going to a select few players. Bornstein is only making $57,500 even though he won the Rookie of the Year award. It is hard for the MLS to retain their talent, especially when they are not paying them a logical salary.

But like I said, this is just a rumor. I have, however, heard this from a reliable source that he wants to leave the MLS for Europe. The only obstacle is Don Garber, who has not been favorable to players wanting a transfer. So we shall see what is going to happen in the coming weeks.

There has been some rumblings on the internet that Bofo, Mr. 100, could be suiting up for Chivas USA soon. The same player that let Guadalajara down. The same player that has been relegated to the bench, never to play for Chivas again. This is the same player that had so much promise, so much potential and a foot of gold to boot. So now that Bofo will not be playing for Guadalajara, it makes sense that he would be sent to Chivas USA. Right?

Well this is really not true. Furthermore, would we really want Bofo on our team? A very controversial player, who only performs when he feels like it. Preki already failed with a player like that, Guevara, so why would we want to put another problematic player onto our team. Understandably, Bofo would be a huge draw and help to put more people into the stands. But how healthy would it be to have him on our team? As it stands, Chivas USA is perceived as the bastard soccer league of the world, a place where old players go to revive their career. How would Bofo feel after being benched, to then be sent off to soccer Siberia?

Once again, I am sounding quite negative, however this is the reality of the situation. Further, it would seem that Bofo wants to be transfered to Europe. According to Fox Sports News, “Bautista, who led the team to its 2006 Apertura victory, wants to play in Europe, the player’s agent Juan Andres Samano told Record.”

So there you have it, a rumor has been dispelled.
