A Lull Before the Storm; Is Chivas Trying to Get the DP Slot Back?
By: David | May 10th, 2007Well not much has been happening so far. The days have passed by relatively quiet and the FO has been mum about any happenings. In fact talking with the FO, they made the mention that the “real” problem is the loss of Sasha Kljestan. I know, they are trying to convince themselves that a young player is the heart and soul of the team and the success of that team depend on him. But alas let them stay in fantasy, as they progress to the next game against the crew.
It is only a few days before the next game and I am curious how the team will respond to last week’s amazing outing. Will we be prepared? Will we come out with an attacking furor that will impress even the coach? Or will this team sit back and watch another pathetic loss unfold? Just remember that it is two weeks until the gals game and the way we are going, things are not looking to good.
Here is an interesting bit from socceramerica.com about the possibility of Chivas petitioning the MLS to get their DP slot back from New York:
Speaking of player departures, what will MLS do if Amado Guevara heads back to Honduras? By declining a trade to Toronto and squelching possible deals with other clubs, he has effectively refused to play in MLS. Refusal to play, like refusing a trade, should annul a transaction, and it is up to the league to make good on this, since it controls player movement.
Since Chivas USA traded its Designated Player slot to Red Bull New York in exchange for Guevara, and lost the asset it gained in that deal through no fault of its own, can Chivas USA petition the league to get back a DP slot?
I really do not know if this is possible or if the league would allow this to happen. But, if Chivas were able to gain back their DP slot it would allow them to try and attract a big name player. The question is how important is a big name player when the team cannot even performing with the players it has?
I apologize once again for the slow posting; this is the last week and half of college for me until graduation.

You guys don’t need a Designated Player, you need a Designated General Manager.

What are you doing wasting your time with college? You could quit right now and get a job as an MLS player and make 13,000 bucks. A year!! You wont be able to make that much with your “engineering” or “law” degrees, college boy!

Clint: You have a point!!! Together we can rule the world making a combined 26k!! Go Us. Pro soccer in America is the way to go….
Micah: I agree, if you have a GM you want to give us, I am ready……that is the best suggestion I have heard in awhile.

how could we possibly get any shot at another DP after we (actually Preki) finally discovered that our end of the trade didnt pan out. its like saying the redsox didnt like the lump of coal they got for Babe Ruth - and a couple weeks later they wanted Ruth back (or at least some money to cover the absence of the Babe).
we’ll get some allocation money…but nothing near the worth of a DP slot. wouldnt be surprised if we ended up getting manuel sol afterall.
