A Call out to Guevara “Get off Your Ass and Play”
By: David | April 13th, 2007Only one more day until the Houston match-up and it would seem that a lot is happening. Not only is there a trade rumor but we also have the structure and existence of the team to worry about. Understandably, this is still a relatively. One of the question marks coming into Saturday is the Honduran midfielder Amado Guevara. Though he had a pretty good season last year, thus far he has been very disappointing. We traded away our DP slot and have been seemingly saddled with an overpaid, overrated player. If he does not pick his game up this weekend, then it is time to think about benching him and bringing in one of the younger players.
I know I am being harsh, but after the amount of money, resources and time Chivas spent bringing him in, Guevara has not panned out. After reading all of the praise that has been heaped onto him and seeing some of his plays, I can only wonder if this is a result of the coaching change. He stated in an article with Luis Bueno that he was 100% Chivas and I am still waiting to see that relate on the field. If he struggled against a “weak” expansion team, how is he going to compete against the reining MLS champs?
Well to help out a bit I started reading up again about Guevara and there has been nothing but praise for him. This was from an older article from ussocerplayers.com:
Anywhere Amado Guevara plays, he always makes an impression. In 2004, Guevara teamed with John Wolyniec to lead the MetroStars in goals scored with 47 in Major League Soccer. He was named League MVP and for good reason. He hits the high marks for what any team wants in an attack minded midfielder, and he does it with confidence.
If only Guevara would play like that, he would be a great fit on the squad and help Chivas take the championship. I still have faith in Guevara and will be watching with great hope that Guevara will make a break this Saturday. And if that happens, well Chivas will be in for a great treat:

I will be out the rest of the day at a job interview.
My prediction for Saturday’s game: Chivas 3 : Houston 2

Giving up the DP slot was a high price no doubt, but let us not jump to any conclusions based on one game.
