Andy Williams was a big FAT LIAR; There were no Broken Bones (The MLS is Out to Stop Chivas From Winning)

By: David | April 28th, 2007

In another interesting turn of events, the Los Angeles Times reported today that x-rays on RSL player Andy Williams turned out to be negative, as there were no broken bones. So Williams was acting last Saturday and the MLS was fooled, causing them to suspend Sacha Kljestan for two games. But I would have to argue that the MLS was not fooled, as they knew what they were doing and were trying to fix this coming Saturday’s game by weakening Chivas. Just as was noted in the LA Times Article, “Although referee Hilario Grajeda saw nothing wrong with the tackle, which left Williams writhing on the ground in pain and sent him to the hospital for precautionary X-rays that showed no broken bones, Major League Soccer on Wednesday fined Kljestan $1,000 and suspended him two games for “serious foul play.” So what does this tell you? The MLS knew what they were doing, as Kljestan is a key player for Chivas and by keeping him out of this Saturday’s game it could potentially damage their chances against the gals.

Seeing that the x-rays came out negative and the response by the MLS makes me sick and question the validity and intention of the MLS. They have continually favored AEG and in doing so have been the sole reason this league is stumbling. Things like this will perpetuate the fragile nature of the MLS, causing soccer to continue being the bastard child of sports in this country. I put full blame on Don Garber and I believe it is time for him to step down. Just as Bruce Arena was forced out of the USMNT so as to help foster change and future growth, it is time for Mr. Garber to step down and let someone new take control. Mr. Garber has proven to be a very biased commissioner, who is holding back the potential of this league. People might disagree with this; however, everyone knows that he is no longer capable to run the MLS.

Mr. Garber do the right thing and step down!

williams has a high ankle sprain and sometimes those are even worse than a broken bone. i suffered this some 5 years ago and im STILL noticing the effects.

in any case when the tackle did happen, and while i thought the tackle was unnecessary, i couldn’t understand how williams could get hurt. and then i saw the slow mo replay.

i just dont know how they couldve suspended him for 2 games, but at the same time let him walk away with a yellow.

High ankle sprains are horrible and like you said take awhile for the player to recoup. However, the MLS made their decision based on the fact that Williams had broken his leg.

And like you said it is very interesting to see the differing responses between the refs and the league. This is quite questionable leading me to believe something more was happening.

Can there be an appeal process to over turn the suspension? It’s too late for the gals game, but maybe MLS can look at the new developments. i.e. Williams is a lawyer.

gly: I really think that the possibility of appeal is slim. Even in the more structured sports leagues (i.e. NFL, NBA) appeals fail, as the league stands by their decision and by the time something happens it is too late. Just look at Kobe Bryant when he appealed his last suspension. Most of the time when a player is suspended the league has a vendetta against that player, creating bias and the belief that they are right and the player is wrong. I will look into a bit more…

As for tonight’s game, what is interesting is that Barrera is no longer listed as injured. So we now have a few options to play with.
