Chivas USA 0 - KC - 1
By: Alex | October 28th, 2007So the Chivas USA leave Kansas City down a point.
I was hoping for a draw, but I can’t complain. We learned a bit from this match. Like, changing the formation in the playoffs might not be a great idea. The first 60 minutes Chivas played a 4-4-1-1 with Sacha playing behind Merlin upfront and Zotinca filling Sacha’s shoes. I see where Preki was going, but it didn’t work. For those 60, KC controlled the game. Sacha could not find his position. Zotinca is too defense minded. But we didn’t give KC many looks at goal, and the defense was strong.
In the second half, Cunliffe came on for Zotinca, Sacha fell in his natural spot and the team had two strikers again. The second the change was made, an immediate difference was felt. Chivas USA controlled the remaining 30. Nunez came on at 75, and looked great. If the team played with this formation the entire 90, we would have seen a different outcome.
I look forward to our match up next weekend. First, we have a great chance of at least one if not both starting strikers to be on the pitch. Even if not, if the team can play the way they did in the final 30 minutes of the game, we should advance.
I will see all of you Chivas USA fans at the Tool Box on Saturday!

Wish they hadn’t changed the formations so that it was at least a tie.

I really do appreciate your optimism…since I spent most of my day today in a bit of a lull over last night’s loss. I’m hopeful that we can get our regular strikers back by Saturday cause we may may may may pull it off without them but only with a bit of luck and our precious home field advantage. But my nerves will certainly be calmer knowing the regular boyz are back. I’ll just be trolling the Sideline Views constantly all week as well as listening to Wed’s Chivas podcast to for details…

Luckily, you guys have the keeper and the defense to throw a shut out, and the offensive guns to stack an attack, at home, against the jeckyl and hyde team of the mls, The Wizards.

Coincidently, DC United changed there usual formation in the playoffs (to a 4-5-1) and wound up with the same result on the away leg. I would think both teams should be able to brush aside their respective opponents in the home legs ahead.
