Chivas USA knocked out of Open Cup

By: Alex | July 2nd, 2008

Once again Chivas USA were prematurely knocked out of the Open Cup by the Seattle Sounders.

Not surprisingly, only six starters were included in the line up. Not sure if Preki thought the first team needed a rest.

Is this a bad thing? Should we go after every tournament? Something should be said for fixture congestion. The Open Cup final is planned for the same day as Chivas USA play Tauro FC, August 26th. Not an issue any more.

About the game, not bad. I think Braun needs a little break, he seems tired. Flores was a not to effective, and Jonny B was pulled around half after a hard bump with El Guzano. Paladini and Chiles need a few more games under their belt.

Sacha Kljestan looked really good. He needed a little help up front, but was doing a great job controlling the midfield. Thomas was back in the line up and dusting off the cob webs. Curtin was solid.

All in all, a tough match and Seattle deserved it that day.

Champions League possibilities.

That’s funny Melissa! I wish we would take ALL tournaments seriously. Open Cup winner gets to go to the Concacaf Champions Cup. Hopefully next year it will be taken very serious!!!

What kind of car? lol. It was a bummer, but to be far, the Sounders look pretty good. I see why they signed their Frenchy.

Losing once in a while in the Open Cup to lower opposition- not catastrophic. But isn’t this at least three years of being knocked out? 2006- Dallas Roma (Amatuer pub league club), 2007- Seattle, 2008- Seattle. Don’t remember 2005. I think you are officially the only team with a below .500 in the open cup. The team needs to take it seriously next year because Chivas is just embarrasing in this competition.

Oh man. As usual, Tim Hainley’s very sharp game preview posts over at Center Line Soccer just tore Chivas a new one. He does really really like Sacha tho.
