Chivas USA Name Change Petition Update; Phase II About to Begin

By: David | April 27th, 2007

Some exciting news, we have finally reached 100 signatures on our name change petition. And this was done with very little advertising. Although this might not seem to be a very large number and the impact these internet petitions has is very minimal, what we have seen is increased dialogue.

It would seem that we have hit a nerve, as more people are talking about the need to change Chivas USA’s name. Through our collective efforts we had started two threads on bigsoccer, both accumulating over 3800 views and over 100 comments. Now that we have started the dialogue, we must move to the next phase.

I have been coming up with some ideas of what we can do, as this issue addresses more than just the name of the team, but rather the image and the potential to expand in the Southern California market. In order to make this possible, everyone will have to work together and start to make contact with the Front Office and the Owners. Together we can make a change and I will be laying out a structured plan. In the time being, let us start to throw around some ideas of how we can address this issue and make our voice heard.

We can embark on a intensive viral campaign by cleverly placing LCD illuminated Chivas USA logos all over downtown Los Angeles…Oh,never mind.

You might be onto something…..and glue might be the key to our problems….

But now being serious, I was thinking something on long the lines of letters and phone calls. Simple stuff to start out with. But if we could get 100 people to send in letters or make a phone call, that would show there is some type of interest and people want to make a change. How can you deny 100 letters? OK so it’s not in the thousands but it is something.

Do you guys think it is possible to get something going, or make a change?

    Update:

It would seem that our efforts have been noticed by other blogs, as the guys at the WVHooligan Soccer blog have written a post on our petition.

Further, the petition is now listed on Google and can be found on the third page if you search for “Chivas USA.”

Sorry gly, just got back, I was in Glendale all afternoon. I’m on MSN now…….

Update #2: tomorrow when I am a little more awake, I will try and post some ideas I have on this issue, along with a pre-game analysis of the Super Classico.
