Chivas USA top Red Bulls 3-0
By: Alex | September 10th, 2007It’s been a busy week at the HDC. Chivas come up big to tie against one of the strongest teams on MLS. They end the week on Sunday by dominating the pitch and handing the Red Bulls a 3-0 defeat. News from the front office also making headlines with a change in GM as Leon steps down. More on this later.
Here a clip of the DC game
With this fresh on their minds, the Red and White met the Red Bulls looking for results.
Galindo had a great game with the help of his team. The goats got an early start with a goal in minute four. Ante drove the ball into the box, found Sacha who then took his time to “nutmeg” Goldwaithe and connect with Galindo for a goal. An excellent showing of team work and connection on the pitch.
The first half was great to watch. The Red and White controlled the pitch for the most part. The defense manhandled Galindo in an attempt to contain him. He got the last laugh. In the second half at minute 57, Galindo chased a long pass from Jonny B and pushed off Stammler to hold possession. Stammler fell and Galindo went one on one with the goalie. Galindo chipped the ball over Waterreus.
Galindo was subbed off for Laurent Merlin. While Merlin lacked that finishing touch he needed to sink a few in the net, he worked super hard and created a ton of opportunities. In minute 69, Larent was headed towards goal in the box when Parke knocked him from behind. The ref pointed to the spot and Razov converted for his 106th of the season.
JP Angel was unnoticeable in the match and Jozy was out due to injury.
Chivas USA in fine form Sunday night. A few observations worth noting. Zotinca out serving game 3 of a four match suspension. Suarez did not play, Marsch and Galindo were subbed out early. Jorge Flores made his MLS debut. Great to see Preki taking advantage of his depth during the busy season.
The Chivas stay busy with the Super Classico on Thursday and the Rapids face off on Sunday. The team needs to convert these games into points in order to top the western conference.
