Chivas vs Chivas

By: Alex | November 19th, 2007

A friendly between Chivas USA and CD Guadalajara took place this weekend to benefit the Tabasco flood victims. The friendly was a win-win situation, and the Chivas won. Well, Chivas Guadalajara won 2-1.

Chivas Guadalajara scored in the 36′ (Santana) and the 54′ (Solis). Chivas USA had a look at goal in the 39′, when Carr found his way in the box. However, Michel’s cleats found Carr’s knee and Claudio converted the penalty.

Zotinca managed to get a second yellow card in the 79′ in a friendly. Carr played all 90 minutes. I wonder if he’s coming over… and what (or who) are we sacrificing for him.

Andrea at the Sideline Views linked to an article in Spanish that says Suarez is pondering retirement to move into coaching. His lone goal here is kind of bittersweet. We’re really going to miss him if he doesn’t go back to LA. With this in mind, I’m not sure why Chivas are “trying out” forwards. Insight?

I read in 100% soccer the list of players Chivas left unprotected. How many can we protect? Because I tried counting the starters and was a little confused with trade rumors as to what we are doing. Can you start a thread on this???

Here is the list of unprotected players:
Chivas USA left these players available today: temperamental and punted playmaker Amado Guevara (they still own the MLS rights), French striker Laurent Merlin, defenders Alex Zotinca, Jason Hernandez and Orlando Perez, Honduran Ramon Nunez, backup goalkeeper Preston Burpo, rookie English striker John Cunliffe, Anaheim’s Jorge Flores, David Arvizu, Anthony Hamilton, injured veteran defender Carlos Llamosa, Rodrigo Lopez, LMU’s Bobby Burling, Justin Myers, Desmond Brooks, Eder Robles and Erasmo Solorzano.

If this list is good, and Burpo is left unprotected, does that mean Guzan is not going to Arsenal, or are we putting all our trust in our 3rd string goalie (if we lose Burpo)?

Is Marsch staying? Is Suarez? Is Mendoza? Guzan?

If we lose these guys to other clubs and a quality reserve like Zotinca, Nunez, where are we going to be?

And are we that good in the striker position for next year that we risk losing Cunliff or Merlin? (Or do we not care because they are inconsistent in their finishing/playmaking?
