We have a Chivas USA preseason review. Take a look and let me know if you agree.

Good news for defender Alex Zotinca. The right back underwent succesful surgery on Monday to repair a partial tear of the right ACL in the knee. No word on a replacement for the start of the season.

Alecko Eskandarian is healthy, and contributed to the 4-1 win against Real Espana.

    Alex,

Chivas will win the Cup if… Brad Guzan plays with Chivas the entire season. Do you really have confidence in Lance Parker?

Zotinca did undergo successful surgery, but it’s still a long shot that he’ll play this season. There is no DL in MLS so if Chivas wants to sign his replacement then they need to shut him down for the year. Considering how many many they’ll be playing this year, Chivas can’t afford to only be playing one man short for a large portion of the season.

I agree with the Zotinca issue. I think that we need depth, mainly because two of our starters will be on international duty at some point Thomas and Bornstein). I personally really like Zotinca and would love to see him back this year. However, September may be too late.

The thing about Guzan…. I agree that he is the best keeper in the league. However, when Preki was questioned about Brad’s move to the EPL back in January, he confidently stated that a backup was selected. It was not either reserve keeper, since neither were with the camp at the time. I think the back up goalie has already been selected, but won’t come in until Brad leaves (salary cap issues). Just call it a hunch.

Alex we will be missing Johnny B and Thomas in that abckline, but don’t forget The Law!!! He was invited to training camp but could not go due to his injury at the time. Nowthat Zotinca is out, The Law has right back secure to himself and if he keeps a good performance, there is no doubt he will get a call.

Chivas was waaay under the cap last year - like by a little less than a million dollars. Who got the phat raise?

The Law has that RB position on lock down. I’m excited he’s back and healthy. Also, I missed his amazing haircuts. Good points about Beezy and Thomas though. Who are their backups? Thomas was one of those pickups no-one saw coming so I bet at least one of the new dev guys are gonna be gold.

I’ve played twice against Michoacano and I am a firm believer that he can railroad anybody in the MLS. Mich, tryout for Zotinca’s spot!

    Seriously, let’s re-sign Orlando Perez.

ELAC, I think that once I lose 100 lbs I should be ready. That and already being past thirty are my only obstacles. I will tryout next season. :)

They picked up Curtian looking ahead at Thomas and the other tournaments. They’ve also been grooming Flores as Bornstein’s back up. Maybe its not Hernandez and Perez, but not bad, if you ask me. If Flores isn’t ready, the team could also consider Wicky, Mendoza or Nags at left back. Plus their’s twos guys with developmental rosters that are OK. So I’m not as worried as you seem to be about the defense.

While I hear you about Preki’s statement that they have a “plan b”, I’m not drinking that kool-aid. I think they are just hoping that Guzan doesn’t leave. If he does leave then they’ll make a run at some people, but not before. That’s a dangerous way to approach this type of sitaution, if you ask me.
