Even More Rumors
By: Alex | December 8th, 2007Well, it’s the off season so what else is there to do?
Fonseca ….. to Chivas USA? I didn’t start the rumor.

Wow, would he be able to fill that attacking midfielder role. And it would make perfect sense if the Red and White still had the DP spot. But they don’t so unless Chivas USA cook the books Galaxy style, we probably won’t see this materialize.

Kikin is going through a bad stretch right now. He’s not even the target forward we can use. He’s a poacher with minimal skill on the ball. He would bring more fans to the tool box, but he would still have to adjust to the MLS. I’m not sure what kind of free kick specialist he would be.
Bottom line, more questions than answers.Posted from

If Guadalajara is willing to foot the bill, couldn’t we get him on-loan, under the max-salary cap. If the MLS cap is $200,000 for a non-DP, then Chivas Guad. signs Kikin for $500,000 a year (for example) but loans him to Chivas USA for $200,000 a year.
The question is: does it make good business sense for The Chivas “Business Company” to take a -$300,000 for a player for MLS and not FMF???

But I agree with EastLAChiva… his name might put more butts in the seats, but would he better the team?? Would he have the same effect as Blanco did with Chicago FC?
Does anyone see him replacing the box-to-box hustle of Mendoza (is that his style)? If the answer is no, then does that mean Sasha K takes on that role?
What I don’t want is someone who pouts when the ball is taken away from them, and then watches the play instead of running back on defense and trying to win the ball back.
Mendoza did a lot of the little things that made the team successful (just like Marsch). I don’t want to lose that.

You guys are both right. However, it may not be fair to compare him to Blanco. Kikin would not be a DP. He would be a striker that is on the expensive side, but not a DP. Is he worth it? I think he is for 4 reasons.
1. He would probably pay for himself in ticket sales.
2. We wouldn’t have to trade for a DP slot. Nothing to give up.
3. We have cap room that is essentially wasted since our team is already good enough to compete for the SS/MLS cup.
4. His skill compared to other alternatives. Last year it was Merlina nd Cunliffe. Both decent, but not compared to Kikin. Picture this…Galindo, Razov and Kikin as your arsenal on the front line…. in MLS. Nothing givin up.He has been going through a though patch this past year. He could turn around the way Angel did with the Red Bulls. If he doesn’t work out, trade him mid season and dump the salary.
One other thing I want to bring up. All the DP calibur players that are brought over are like 33 years old at the end of their career. Fonseca is 28 or so. He has another 5 years left (or 11 based on Suarez’s performance).

Good point. Would he be our 3rd striker (off the bench to spark or per injury), would he play Left Wing Midfield (LWM), or change formations 3-4-3 or 4-3-3?

East LA Chiva was saying that he is primarily a poacher, but I saw him play for El Tri as an attacking Mid. Your guess is as good as mine. I would think that preki would try to fit him in. If Kikin is best suited as a striker, maybe slide ante into the playmaking role. he has the vision and the long range shot. Rather than a 4-4-2, maybe we could see a diamond in the midfield with Marsch in the back and Pancho/Special K on the sides? Who knows.

Wow Alex, I just got chills from your offense ideas.

Korner Pocket reports that Mendoza’s return to Guadalajara is on hold, which is probably due to Ramon Morales wanting to stay with Guad. They don’t want to bring Mendoza only to sit him on the bench.
So I guess a diamond midfield, or at least an advanced Kikin and deep Marsch, would definitely work if Mendoza stays.

Thanks Melissa. I want to continue this conversation so I’m going to post a new blog on this.
