Galindo Getting Love Throughout the Internet and Media
By: David | June 2nd, 2007The love-fest is starting up and it could not have happened to a better guy. Maykel Galindo, the Cuban striker who defected from his home country when in Seattle, is starting to become a national sensation. Not only is he a great player, with a golden boot that has helped Chivas USA to numerous victories, but he is a humble man that is playing for the love of soccer.
I have been waxing praise on Galindo all season and pointed him out to the Offside readers, when I declared that was the fastest man in the MLS. Now everyone else is starting to see the potential that Galindo has and the bright future that is beginning to open up for him.
The following is a taste of some of the articles being written about Galindo:
News & Observer, NC
The Olympian, WA
Monsters and Critics.com, UK
KPTV.com, OR
Seattle Times, WA
Seattle Post Intelligencer, WA

I have been screaming the praises of EL CUBANO all season as well. Even with all the big name signings, he might be the most important signing on the field in the league.

I could not agree more, and that is what usually happens, its the guy out of the spotlight, the one that is never really looked at, who ends up becoming the star. If Galindo continues at this pace, he will grow into a very powerful forward; quite like he was at Seattle. People are starting to recognize his potential.
My question is, once he gets his green card, could he play for the USMNT?

Nope, he played for Cuba at the Gold Cup in ‘05 before he defected.
I saw him with Seattle and while I thought he was fast, he didn’t really stand out. It’s amazing what better service can do for you…

The thing about Galindo is that he is very raw. He has a lot of talent, but had someone found him younger he would have been an international standout player. The problem is that he is in his 20s and really only has a few more years of “youth” play and potential to grow.
I am just excited to see him preform, and guy with this much potential, I really hope he can get into Europe. Even though I would hate to see him leave Chivas, it would be awesome to see Galindo on the international stage, making his godly goals.
It was a coup that Chivas scored him, and I hope Preki understands the type of player that he has.
Well that answers that about his national team play then, so I guess we shall see what his future will hold.
Now back to Kill Bill.

Well Galindo did it again, with a beautiful goal yesterday against the Seattle Sounders. He is just continuing his scoring dominance. Now if we can just get him to score a hat trick and we might see the rest of the league recognize his talents.
