Goats Say No To Alas And Thompson

By: ivan j | June 30th, 2007

After a relatively quiet first international transfer window, Chivas usa managed to make moves for players, thus far, a disappointment.

Thompson appears to have injured his knee again in the middle of practice with the team. CDCUSA gave him a no at this point. They will review his situation in January of next year.

Alas was given a no due to a full international youth roster. He will remain here in L.A. for a few days and is actively looking for a team. According to his manager, there are three teams currently intrested in him. Gee, my only hope is that the other L.A. team doesn’t snatch him up. I don’t want to see this coming back to slap us in the face. So according to MLS rules, each club can only hold four international youth players (under24) per roster. Guess they didn’t see much in Alas to let one of our international youths go.

Fransisco Mendoza
Laurent Merlin
John Cunliffe
Rodrigo Lopez?

Alonso and More, the Cuban National Team defectors were given an invitation to train with the club. No word on their arrival. Can they be the duo that holds Chivas up while our boys are at Copa America?

I have faith that a big signing will come soon. Meanwhile I’ll brace for the tough match that our boys will face tomorrow. See you guys at the game. FUERZA CHIVAS!

I just read that Merlin was promoted to the senior roster? He’s the only Chiva I follow, since he’s French and came to you via the Galaxy, but I really like him. So that would open up your Youth International spot.

Senior vs developmental roster means nothing regarding the limit of youth internationals. Youth internationals can be either senior or developmental.

Youth international slots can be traded. So Chivas USA may or may not have 4.

Rodrigo Lopez has played for US youth teams so is definitely NOT a YI. At times mlsnet is correct in their listings.

Right now they have Cunliffe, Nagamura, Mendoza, and Merlin as YI’s. Thomas and Suarez as SI’s. If a team hasn’t used up all it’s SI slots, a YI eligible player can be positioned in one.

If the Cubans get refugee status, they wouldn’t count as internationals.
