Guatemalan captain to Chivas USA?
By: Ivan | June 21st, 2007As reported by La Red Deportiva, PrensaLibre and La Opinion, Freddy Thompson, Guatemalan national team captain and long time Comunicaciones player is reportedly on his way to L.A. to train with coach Preki. If you’re wondering why we didn’t see him in the 2007 Gold Cup, it’s because he was recovering from a knee injury. Earlier this year there were a few rumors of him going to Europe, but finally signed with Comunicaciones’s rival, Municipal. I honestly can’t say much since I’ve never seen him play. Perhaps some of you can chime in with your thoughts on Thompson? I’ll leave you with o’ so precious quotes.
Another rough translation by yours truly:
From LaOpinion:
“Next week freddy will come to train. Preki wants him to see the medical staff to check his knee. If he’s healthy, he will be the first re-enforcement for the second half of the MLS season. He still has no contract”, said the coach
“Coming to MLS is one of the goals I’ve set for my self for this year and hopefully it’ll be taken care of soon”, said Thompson.
From PrensaLibre:
“The negotiations were between MLS and us, since there is a clause in Freddy’s Municipal contract that allows him to sign with a foreign club at any moment, given that said foreign club helps the player to leave without any problems”, said the representative.
