Guevara was a Waste and Preki was Lost; Chivas Looked BAD

By: David | April 29th, 2007

clownLast night looked like amateur hour, with Chivas reverting back to the horrible play of their inaugural season. There was no preparation, no emotion and no talent, as Chivas looked to be scared of their own shadow. Preki has some explaining to do and rather then ripping into his team through the LA Times, he should realize that he is the reason for our failure. Preki did not prepare his team and made some very big tactical errors; namely the starting line up and the lack of preparation and reliance on Kljestan. Kljestan is a good player, but he was not the heart of the team, in fact he was above average for the first three games and that was it.

This was a complete lack of coaching by Preki and he should re-evaluate his intentions. Maybe Preki is not ready to be a coach in the MLS and should send in his resignation letter before things get really bad. Now I know I was initially high on Preki and people will say that I am acting to irrationally, however, the team has looked pathetic against competitive opponents. Thus far, we have only succeeded against weak teams and crumbled under teams that show a little bit of pressure. This is not the team’s fault, but rather Preki’s and he should take ownership of this lack of play.

As for the other weak link, Guevara has proven once again to be a waste. Not only was his play abysmal, but following his benching Guevara was red carded and ejected for pushing an assistant ref. We do not need this type of player on our team! We do not need someone who constantly battles with the coaching staff, makes an ass of himself and does not produce on the field. The FO made a mistake in trading a DP slot for Guevara and it is time to either cut him or bench him. I have been calling for Guevara’s head all season (yes I know the season is only 4 games old) and I think people are starting to realize that he is a problem. Now that Guevara will be suspended for the next game, he will have some time to think about his future. Either he plays or he should be cut.

Last night was just pathetic. The only bright spot was Bornstein and Merlin. Bornstein once again proved to be a viable asset to the team and needs to be put in the midfield.

My suggestion to Preki for the next game, replace any underachieving player with a bench player/rookie until they determine if they want to play for Chivas or not. No one on the pitch last night looked like they wanted to play and only four games in; this could be a long season.

Bornstein was really impressive. Every time I was squeezing my little rubber stress ball, he was the cause.

And it was fun to see Merlin play. (And fun listening to the announcers try to pronounce his name. Which they actually did fairly well.) I wish he could have been credited with the goal.

Gly: Now you see what I am saying….Guevara is a negative impact upon the team…but Preki is proving to be just as bad. …….also can you get onto MSN tonight, I will be on after 7pm, I need to talk with you….

Laurie: Your French guys are pretty good…I will have to admit that, I really hope Merlin does something and continue to progress….and Yes Bornstein has proven to be very good, I in fact went to the same high school as him. But I like the idea of a squeeze ball, I needed one yesterday……For May 20th I will get us both 5 squeeze balls each, we will need it.

I just downloaded last night’s game (last night was a bit of a blur), and I think Francisco Mendoza was another stand out player. Great handling of the ball and created many opportunities!

There were some bright spots, small but they did exist. The team looked a lot better coming out of the second half…..Cunliffe and Merlin both proved themselves to be viable starters for the next game against DC….or at least they will pressure the starters for the spots. Each time they come into the game it would seem that the team is energized…..Matt Taylor just brings in intensity, he is not the best player, but plays harder then most…..

As for the negatives, Razov and Galindo both had off nights….Razov spent most of the night laughing instead of playing, and it was not until the last few minutes of the game that he started to get angry…Galindo just completely disappeared; though he did have a few nice moments on the left side….Suarez and Vaughn looked overwhelmed as they were constantly backpedaling and trying to keep up with the galaxy forwards. Zotinca was out of place, Hernandez was a detriment and Jesse Marsh was a non-existent player….Preki was just pathetic….

Like I said before, Bornstein was the strongest player last night and needs to be put at midfield. That was the position he played last year when he won rookie of the year.

“In these kinds of games, if you don’t come out and play 100 percent like they did, you’ve got one or two guys strolling around, you are going to be in big trouble,” Razov said. “We’re going to have some serious conversations this next week.” (Chivas Website)

Sounds like a coaching problem to me. That is two big games out of four and the team was unprepared with a lack of focus in both. Any other sport and the fans would be calling for the coaches head. Maybe Mr. ToughGuy Preki is all bark and no bite!

Glyconerd, where did you download the game from?

And I won’t ask why the previous night was a bit of a blur. I believe I may have that merit badge as well. (But not from this game.)
