Interesting Friendly

Chivas USA announced the line up for the Chivas USA - Chivas Guadalajara friendly this weekend. The line up is very interesting.

It seems that Preki is using this opportunity to shop a few positions. Several players will be joining the squad for this friendly from different teams.

Calen Carr (Chicago Fire) and Matt Taylor (Ex-Chivas USA Portland Timbers) will be playing with the squad up front. Chivas USA has been trying to find some depth in that position.

I don’t know much about Calen Carr, but from what I hear, he can give it all for 90 minutes. The only problem is his finishing. Matt Taylor played for the Chivas USA last season, but was let go this season for Jonny C and Merlin.

The midfield called for the friendly surprised me. We have a strong midfield, so why are we shopping this spot? Shaun Higgins and Daniel Paladini will be joining the team. Daniel Paladini plays with the reserve team. Does any one know who Shaun Higgins is? So why is Chivas USA bringing in two midfielders? Maybe they are looking towards the future with Jesse playing one more year. Maybe the deal with Panchito is more official than we know. Maybe someone put an offer on Sacha. Who knows.

Same defensive line up.

Sam Reynolds (TFC goal keeper) is making the trip. Did Arsenal make a leap for Brad?

So this friendly became very interesting and left a lot of open questions.

I love Calen Carr. I have no idea why. I also think his style of play would fit will with Chivas USA

I was surprised by all of the changes as well. Also, Preki isn’t going to Mexico. I forgot who is coaching this one - the technical director? I’m sure you listened to yesterday’s podcast so you know there’s also an upcoming match in Fresno so when we see that line-up we’ll know more. As far as I know Beezy and Sacha have not gotten offers (yet) but its unclear if Guzan did.

Perhaps some of these “try-outs” are roster possibilities if SJ takes a Chivas player. Crossing my fingers Yallop skips the goats.

As much as I love the club and personnel, you gotta be happy if Johnny B or Sasha make it to the lower levels of the Premership (Championship - yes, but nothing in League 1 that is not going to be promoted to Championship).

Besides, every great club is always shopping for players and grooming youth for the future. So looking for midfielders to eventually replace Mendoza and Sasha is smart. The same for Marsh - because it sounds like he is trying to start his coaching career with the 09′ season.

Caleen Carr does hustle alot, and he might be something that will add depth to our squad. Don’t get me wrong, I love Merlin’s work ethic and Johnny Cunliffe’s strength, but they really have to start finishing their chances. They need to start repeating their RSL performances on a more consistent basis.

And I still think we should get the Colorado target forward Casey Connor.

No word yet on a TV schedule. Possibly on a Spanish channel.

I’m not sure about Carr yet. Hopefully we will see some class on Saturday.

Calen Carr is an awsome player to watch. Im suprised that the Fire is lending him for this game. I’m also suprised that he’s not a starter with the Fire.

I don’t like Carr. He is a poor finisher just like Cunlife and Merlin.
