Kikin…. Seriously? I though it was a joke.
By: Alex | December 10th, 2007When I first saw the article, I wrote it off as speculative rumor. Then a few more articles came out and a couple of blogs. Is this possible? The better question is…
Is Kikin right for the Red and White? Before you answer that, take a look at this.
Is he worth it? I think he is for 4 reasons.
1. He would probably pay for himself in ticket sales.
2. We wouldn’t have to trade for a DP slot. Nothing to give up.
3. We have cap room that is essentially wasted since our team is already good enough to compete for the SS/MLS cup. Might as well use it to bring people to the HDC.
4. His skill compared to other alternatives on the team or in MLS. Last year our options were Merlin and Cunliffe. Both decent, but not compared to Kikin. Picture this…Galindo, Razov and Kikin as your arsenal on the front line…. in MLS. Nothing given up.
He has been going through a though patch this past year, but he is a proven striker. He could turn around the way Angel did with the Red Bulls. If he doesn’t work out, trade him mid season and dump the salary.
One other thing I want to bring up. All the DP caliber players that are brought over are like 33 years old at the end of their career (cough.. becks… cough cough Blanco..). Fonseca is 28 or so. He has another 5 years left (or 11 based on Suarez’s performance).
The thing that makes him attractive to the Chivas USA to me is the “there’s not much to lose”. We lost a lot with Guevara, but almost nothing when Nunez didn’t work out.
Chivas need a couple things filled before next season. One of those is depth to the front line. This would definitely do that.

This would have been a great move last year, with Razov injured and Galindo not at 100%.
If this goes through, 2008 is starting to look really good after the big changes and speculation in line-ups after 2007.

Hey – couple thoughts on your diamond idea that still gives me chills:
If Kikin is best suited as a striker, maybe slide ante into the playmaking role. he has the vision and the long range shot. Rather than a 4-4-2, maybe we could see a diamond in the midfield with Marsch in the back and Pancho/Special K on the sides?
I may be wrong but I was under the impression that Sacha kind-of worked his way into the middle this season and he’s concentrating on getting better at that spot. I think mostly because its a position that he could really contribute to the Nats and the Chivas podcast guys said he’s spending extra time specifically practicing his long shots. On that alone, I’d love for Sacha to stay put there (especially if SJ for realsies tries to grab Benny — oh pleasepleaseplease — Benny, get off the effin bench already). I also think that one of Ante’s big strengths is he always magically plants himself in the correct position and often moves into an even better one when everything is going down (I just love that silly wave with the yelling bit he does). He just naturally wants to be the finisher while there were moments this past season where Pancho (minus the -ito) made some fantastic plays from the side. I don’t know how to fit all of that together. What do you think?

Well, there are a few options. I think the biggest plus for me is that word — options. We play a 4-4-2 partially because we want to, but partially because we have to. With the exception of Jonny B, most players are stuck to their positions. When everyone is healthy, no problem.
Galindo is awesome
Ante is awesome…. adding up the years, but still awesome
Kikin added to the arsenal. That has potential to be the most dangerous attack in teh league. It reminds me of Chivas Guadalajara two years ago with the trio of Bravo, Medina and Bofo. ……. we can dream right?

So let me see if I get this right?

Thats an option. It also leaves you with Zotinca, Nagamura, Hamilton, and Cunliffe on the bench. Depth. With the extratournaments… awesome.

That’s a hell of a line up, Pocket Kings. It’s too good to be true. Kikin is capable of scoring 15-20 goals in this league if and when he catches on to the style of play.
I’ll believe it when I see it.
Coincedentally, I was very impressed iwth Kikin at the World Cup. His form was impressive.Posted from

Wow PocketKings, I really like how that picture lays out. Someone forward that to Preki — stat.
I can see Razov passing then moving forward as well as Sacha moving into the middle. I almost want Mendoza on the right side now. Has “The Law” Vaughn been getting into the attack recently? I don’t remember. He certainly does have the best hair in MLS (oop, digression).

Here’s another link. Is this talking about Chivas USA or Guadalajara?

I just gotta echo what’s already been said here. DEPTH is much needed. Fonseca could provide that plus a modest bump in attendance. The only person I can see having problems is Razov as he’s already been in Preki’s face after being subbed out. I hope Fonseca doesn’t get FMF player syndrome and get “home sick”.
I like Pocket king’s formation too..I much rather have Borenstein and Vaugh in the back.
Good job on the blog Alex
