Late Goal Puts Chivas USA On Top
By: Alex | September 23rd, 2007Chivas USA win an exciting game against the Kansas City Wizards. Ante Razov found the back of the net twice, once around 65′ and then a late game shocker at 93′.
The game for the most part was fought hard from both sides. KC came out hard in the first 20 minutes, trying to get the early lead. They seemed to tire out at the end, and appeared to be comfortable with a tie.
The game changing moment was the tactical decision Preki made. The CDCUSA was forced to make due without Marsch for the game due to yellow card accumulation. Vaughn stepped in. The team lacked the usual midfield genius, as Vaughn plays a more defensive style than Marsch. At minute 59, Preki pulled Zotinca out of the defense and replaced him with Vaughn, Ramon Nunez came in on the right midfield as Sacha fell into the middle. This reconfiguration gave the Red and White the spark needed.
Nunez provided a more attacking play, and created several opportunities. He created the first goal with a through pass to Panchito, which ended up on Antes foot.
The defense held strong, specifically Shavar Thomas. He kept EJ at bay, intercepting passes. It was nice to see Suarez back in the lineup.
Overall a very good win. A special thanks goes out to the San Patricos, Chivas USAs newest supporters group. We sat in their section and they kept the excitement up the whole game. It was also great to see Razov celebrate with these fans.
This was an exciting match that puts the team in first place in the Western Conference. What’s next? The Supporters Shield? Well DC United and Chivas USA are even in games with DC 2 points ahead of the Red and White. Only five more games.

Where were the St. Patrick’s Brigade? I didn’t see any of the banners? I am considering membership, but don’t know where to go??
As much as I love & respect the Legion, they were in poor form at the game. You could really the difference with them not there. I needed the drumming and the constant singing!! And it took almost 4 Goal Kicks before there was a smattering of “PUTooooo” being shouted. They had a little more heart in the second half.
Great job to Mr. T, aka Shavar Thomas (which is oddly appropriate with his mohawk)! You did a great job slowing down Eddie Johnson.

PK,
Check out http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=988
Bigsoccer.com is a platform the group usually uses to network. It is a good group of about 15 guys.
The legion was actually “punishing” itself at this game. Due to the concerns that surrounded the Superclassico, they puposefully did not chant or stand up, but were allowed to cheer for the goals.
I appreciate your comments, keep them up.

Alex,
Thanks for the info… I didn’t realize the situation. The Legion really does make a difference in the atmosphere of the game. And although I can’t follow along with the chants (I wish I knew the words), I love to see and here them at the games.
I hope they come out in FORCE when Senor Blanco makes his debut at the TOOL BOX!
