Liquidation sale on defenders

By: Alex | May 9th, 2008

Carey Talley has been signed to Chivas USA.

“CARSON, Calif. (Friday, May 9, 2008) – Chivas USA announced today the acquisition of defender Carey Talley, an 11-year veteran of Major League Soccer and 1999 MLS Cup champion, from Real Salt Lake. Drafted by D.C. United out of the University of North Carolina in 1998, Talley has played 256 games in his MLS career (starting 206), scoring 18 goals and adding 25 assists as a defender and defensive midfielder. In exchange, Chivas USA sent a conditional pick in either the 2010 or 2011 MLS SuperDraft to Real Salt Lake.

“Carey is an experienced, consistent defender who can play both in the middle and on the outside,” said Chivas USA Head Coach Preki. “We’re glad he’s joined the squad and think he’ll be a good fit for us as we move forward.””

Gargan retired

“Chivas USA defender Dan Gargan, signed on April 25 as a Disabled List Replacement for defender Alex Zotinca, has retired from professional soccer effective immediately. A three-year veteran of the league, Gargan has left the sport for personal reasons.”

Chris (a guy I really liked) was waived.

“Defender Chris Pozniak has been waived. The Canadian international had played four games (starting three) as a right defender for the Red-and-White in 2008.”

We traded Cunliffe for a guy we cut? Preki is not making some smart moves. I feel we are witnessing the last season for Preki as coach. He has done little to assimalate Mexican players, young players, and now MLS veterans. If he we’re being outplayed or outsmarted, then more attention should be put on Preki.

I still believe in him. However, the clock is ticking. Victories are getting harder to come by. Injuries are a bitch right now, so I have to reserve FINAL judgement.

    Is the Preki magic gone?

It might be a little early for that… but I agree.

Wicky sprained his ankle for this one.

No fucking way. I actually thought Ponziak was decent . Ebert is the player that needs to go…Woah, I wonder what happened to Gargan!? We lose two rightbacks in the same week? Something is up.

Come on Chivas USA. Pozniak waived, seriously? I would expect Atiba Harris, Ebert, Mendoza, to be waived before Pozniak! We need to fix our defense fast. Or i can’t see Preky with the red - white next year. I hope the FO reflects on Prekis mistakes.

Posnik was the one who caused us one of the early losses!! He got beat by his man twice in one game. Ebert did better in yesterday’s game than Posnik did.

I hope this guy can play Central Defense, because Curtin got beat twice (for two goals) yesterday. He better learn to position himself better, or get on a treadmill and learn to run faster!

I have watched Kraig Chiles play for many years I think he did a great job for his first start after his 10 min jitters,he can score(look what he has done on the reserves) he can pass( look the number of assists he had in college)I dont understand why Preki doent play him,I truley believe he has the best foot on the team.
