Midweek Reflection: Is Guevara Suspended or Not and What Does Disneyland Have to do with Chivas?
By: David | May 2nd, 2007
As you all know, we have been really questioning Guevara’s play and attitude on the pitch, however, the MLS has yet to make a ruling. What is the league waiting for? Are they tantalizing us with the possibility of a huge fine/suspension or do they really not know what is going on?
Just a refresher, Guevara was thrown out of the stadium on Saturday for pushing an assistant ref. According to the LA Times, he had received a red card for the incident. But thus far we have not seen anything about the suspension, red card or even heard from the coaches. In most sports, the manager/coach will speak to media about the progress of the team; thus far it has been very quiet, except that the team spent Monday at Disneyland. Yes, Disneyland! What a great place to forget one’s woes and avoid practicing. I know. The trip to Disneyland was done for the sponsors, but it still is pretty funny seeing the team wasting time at a theme park following their pathetic play against galaxy.
What we can deduce is that Preki is running his players into the ground, as a result of the horrible play on Saturday. Let us hope that the team is prepared for this weekend’s battle against DC United, a team that has been plagued by their own problems.
Going into the match, Chivas will be without Kljestan and Guevara (maybe), so it will be interesting to see what the line-up will be. Merlin and Cunliffe both proved themselves as viable options and could provide much needed speed and attack. Once again, I really think that Bornstein should be brought up to the midfield, as he excelled last season in this position.
More to come later.
