Morning Before the “Historic Matchup”- Why Chivas USA is a Real Team
By: David | April 6th, 2007“Superstars? You won’t just see that here. You’re going to see a team that works well for each other, and that’s a good thing,” Guevara said. (mlsnet.com)
Can you taste that? That, my friends is the mist of success. Or at least that is what has come over the area around my house. It is dark, quite cold and looks to be an ominous foresight of events to come. What a great set-up for the day before the Chivas-TFC battle.
One day left till the season begins and I am ready for my “mini” comeback. After a bit of time off to recollect my thoughts, reorganize myself and prepare for the coming season I bring you some news. Or at least a bit more information that will help to ease your mind prior to the “historic” (that is what MLSNET is calling it) match.
As was detailed in the Chivas USA Preview, one of the question marks for the team this year is Amado Guevara. He is an elusive character, that has proven to be a very dangerous player both to his opponents and his coaches. One of these athletes that loves to speak his mind, usually resulting in mixed results on the field. Every sport has them and well Chivas was seemingly saddled with one when Guevara was brought on. Do not get me wrong, I really like this guy and have seen the talent that he has. But at times, it is his attitude and continued refusal to work with coaches that can become problematic.
Remember, Guevara was traded to Chivas with the understanding that he was going to be playing under his former coach, Bob Bradley. Yet as we all know, Bradley left to take the INTERIM position on the national level. With Preki steping in as coach, people wondered if Guevara would be able to work with him, especially where Preki is a very fiery coach.
Well it would seem that our worries can be allayed as Guevara has stated that “I came with the desire to play with Chivas and I am looking forward to playing with this institution…” (mlsnet.com)
Though only a small quote to a reporter, it is better then nothing. In fact, we have yet to hear of any real confrontations during practice. Let us hope this continues through the season as the team gels. And that is the real issue here, teamwork, something a lot of teams in the MLS (or at least one team) does not understand.

Another interesting article is from the Toronto Star, detailing an interesting connection between Chivas USA and TFC.

Well that is the morning round up. Look for more match analysis later today.

Dangerous to “both his opponents and his coaches.” I like it. I agree that Guevara’s going to be a hell of a wild card for your bunch this year.
Well, for what it’s worth, I think Chivas will top the new boys. Good luck.

I am curious to see what Guevara will do tonight and how the team will respond. A lot rides on the front and the midfield as our defense is kind of weak. If the front gels and takes advantage of their talent most teams will not be able to stop us. Kind of Brazilian soccer or at least that is how this team could become. Tonight will be an interesting test and I think they can pull it off too.
