“Pathetic” Match by Chivas, as the Offense could not Score (Emotions run High in Second Game Let Down)
By: David | April 14th, 2007This was a pathetic showing by the Chivas offense, as much as they looked like they were in control last week, this week they could not break through Houston’s defense. For most of the match, it looked as if Chivas was reverting back to their 2005 season when they could not communicate and could not find the back of the net. Instead of embracing the attacking play that Preki has prided himself with, they played like an American team: pathetic and worthless.
The match should have been in Chivas hand as the only goal scored by Houston was off of a free kick. After being scored on Chivas fell apart and could not come back. Maybe we really do need Zidane.
That was bad and I am too mad to do a full match report at the moment so I will be providing one tomorrow when I have calmed down.

I don’t care how much you suck. You’re not getting Zidane.

FFS! We had quite a few opportunities to score! Till next time, Dynamo. Till next time.

I wouldn’t say the offense sucked. Hell, Chivas dominated that game. A bad call gave Houston a free kick that they took advantage of.
If anything it was the finishing, Galindo and Juanito should have put the game out of reach in the 1st half.

Chris, yea you’re right. Like I said it was my emotions that overcame me after that match. Just like glyconerd noted we had a lot of chances to score and they just did not follow through. More then anything this was a result of a young team playing under a new manager. What really was upsetting was seeing how the team fell apart after being scored on. After such a strong start, they looked like they were prepared to make a strike. But following Houston’s score, the team started unraveling do to the pressure and the changing momentum.
Finishing was definitely a problem, but if you remember that was a problem we had last year. We would end up leading for most the game and then loose it in the last few minutes because of a defensive breakdown. So I guess to look at the positives, the defense played really well tonight and was quite impressive. Galindo once again impressed me, it will not be long until he gets his first goal.
Preki needs to sit the team down, have them reorganize and prepare for the next match against RSL.
Now that I am a little more calm I can finally look at the game a bit more. Galindo was most definitely one of the best players. But the defense was my man of the match.

I saw the second half, and I thought it wasn’t that bad. Not unlike Toronto in the area, but not as shitty.

It was an OK match, but I feel sorry for you guys, that was not pretty. I guess my only gripe is with the fact that the team could not really pull a score.
What I have to do is keep reminding myself that this is just the beginning of the season and there are still 28 games left.
There is a good recap from mlsnet.com:
Interestingly enough, we took the same amount of shots as Houston, 12 and had 5 shots on goal.
Monday. Gotta remember that day.
(Shall I change the title of the post?)

As much as I am a chivas fan, I don’t know why Chivas U.S.A. exists.

James, that is one of the biggest problems facing Chivas USA; its identity. You have noted something that is very pressing and will be key to their ultimate success. One of the things that happened when Vergara put the team in LA was that he thought all Chivas fans would embrace the new team. What he did not expect was that there would be separation with the fans; in that some of them would not follow this “new” team because it did not embrace the history and existence of the team in Guadalajara. Chivas USA has morphed into a completely different team, then what was initially intended. This was largely due to the fan response and the make up of Los Angeles.

To be honest, it doesn’t bother me if some Chivas Mexico die hard likes Chivas USA or not. This is our league, our Chivas . It would be nice if the team changed their name to project more inclusiveness or openness to everyone in L.A.. I like CD Los Angeles, Los Angeles FC, and perhaps they can keep “Chivas” as their mascot for Vergaras’s sentimental sake. =\

glyconerd, I support the idea of renaming the team. Chivas USA is a name that really has no connection, as it was more of a marketing ploy to gain a national audience. Well, as we have seen this has not been as successful as previously thought.
Further, most popular international teams are named after the city they are in, i.e. Manchester United, C.D. Guadalajara, Real Madrid, FC Barcelona. Each of these teams was able to create a mass following, even though they were named after a city.
CD Los Angeles or FC Los Angeles would be a great move for the team, situating ourselves as the true team in Los Angeles. Maybe we can start a petition to get the team to change names.

Since U.S. teams are ‘borrowing’ names from Europe how about Real L.A.? Or.. L.A. United?

So, what’s the difference between ‘borrowing’ a name from Europe and ‘borrowing’ a name from Latin America?
