Preki to the NYRBs?
By: Alex | November 28th, 2007As NY look to replace Arena, several names have popped up. Like …Preki.
When NY was denied by Chicago Fire to speak with Osorio, it left them searching for a replacement. The Red Bulls seem to have opted not to go after the “Big” foreign name and pursue someone with experience in MLS. Besides Osorio, one “Coach of the Year” is on the list.
Although it appears that Chivas is not concerned about losing him, are the fans?
So I will ask. Should we be worried about the future of the squad minus Preki?
Who should replace him should he decide to go?

I hope the Chivas Front Office knows something more than we do. I would definitely be upset if NYRB bought out Preki’s contract and he left the team. Preki’s leadership is evident in the tough play of the midfield and the backline. You see his body language on the sideline and it speaks volumes to our team on the field.
The interview he gave on Fox Football Fone-in, and how it contrasted with Galaxy GM Lalas, displays his coaching professionalism. Lalas interview looked like a pre-pubescent child that lost some of his friends to the new kid on the block. To paraphrase his most memorable response -
The only good thing about Chivas are the Chivas Girls, and even then… (scoff). I hate their front office, their players, coaching staff, etc -
I think that sums up Lalas. Preki, on the other hand, was a pure professional. Even when the hosts were laughing when asking the question - You guys (Chivas) must be laughing your asses off about the Galaxy? Preki’s response (paraphrased) was -
We are playing good ball, and caught them at a bad time. But I’m the kind of guy that worries about my locker room and don’t focus on the other guy’s (Galaxy) locker room.
So like I said, I hope the font office has personal assurances from Preki (and that we can bank on his professionalism & sense of honor).
I don’t think we can afford California Klinnsman? And I am not sure if it would be worth it if we could?
What do you think?

I remember that FFF. That was the moment I went from disliking the “Jewel” of MLS to hating the pub team. Lalas is a joke.
I think Preki made some first year choices that he regrets. However, he like the rest of the team will continue to get better. I see a future in Preki and our ownership group.

I really hope this winds up being nothing more than negotiation tactics for Preki to get a raise. I honestly fear Preki as the NY coach becuase their roster is full of excellent players. With Preki in charge of those guys… yikes.

Oh and after reading PocketKings’ bit about Fox Fone-in, I say Hernandez should switch his focus away from Donovan and concentrate solely on kicking Lalas in the balls next season. Do it for the fans, Jay.
