Pulse part 1 — offense
By: Alex | May 14th, 2008Starting with the front, least amount of issues.
Maykel Galindo:
maykel is getting stronger everyday. He should be up to his old tricks soon. He needs a little more help from the midfield.
Ante Razov:
Not much to say, probably one of the smartest players on the team. If he is rotated in with other talent, His much needed experience will result in goals. Rotation is key.
Alecko Eskandarian:
I have a lot of respect for Alecko. I’ve said it before, our offense depends on him. Galindo and Razov will not be healthy all the time. He needs to be able to step in and play with anyone, and the kid has the talent and the supporting cast to be great here. However, his injury is very bad. Mainly because it is still a mystery with the team. Surgery won’t help and he is not getting better. Unfortunately he is an expensive gamble. he needs to pay off.
Justin Braun:
Justin Braun is important to the future of Chivas USA. He has the potential to be a great striker, and just needs a little bit of nurturing. The kid is great and is on a development contract. He has shown more than Merlin or Cunliffe and was a great find by Preki. Hopefully he will continue to get playing time.
Atiba Harris:
Not as bad as everyone is saying. I think this striker is utilized in the wrong way. Harris has height, and should be used as a target forward. Pulling out a defender and inserting Harris at the last 15 will never get you anywhere. He needs someone smart to play with. He needs someone that can get him the ball. The only two players that has the potential to utilize his skills are Razov and Wicky. So. in my opinion, if he were to come in late in combination with Wicky, that would be good. If Wicky/Razov are not on the field, don’t bother playing him.
What to do…
I think the offense is actually in good shape. The key is alecko. If he can get healthy, keep it the way it is. If he is still injured come summer, put him on the season injured list and rehabilitate him for next season. He would need to be replaced. A proven goal scorer is needed.
If the Bofo rumors come true, he would make an excellent replacement. However, if Bofo does come to Chivas USA, I am guessing that one of our strikers will be traded for the DP slot, which means we will need one more solid striker. Clear as mud.

I really have nothing to add to this except if Galindo or Razov were traded, I’d be completely crushed. Also, you can likely cross San Jose off the list of clubs willing to trade their DP slots. From reading interviews with Doyle, I think he’d rather stay in the cellar and take his sweet-ass time building the expansion team than make a somewhat panic decision. But a player like Razov is exactly what SJ needs right now.
