Small Rumor of the Night: Chivas to Move out of the Home Depot Center Soon
By: David | April 23rd, 2007Alright this one is real quick, but something that is pertinent to a lot of what we have been talking about. When talking with the FO they made the mention that their goal is to move the team out of the HDC. This would be great, so as to get out from under the tyrannical control of AEG which sucks up all of our potential revenue. In fact we only get a percentage from ticket sales; we do not get any money from concessions and parking, plus if you purchase club seats you are also purchasing gals tickets. That means that a portion of the money being spent is going to the gals, our hated enemy. As such, one of the things that need to be done is leave the HDC and move to an area where Chivas will be able to flourish. In my opinion this is going to be a truth and will happen soon.
So where do you guys think we should move to?

Update: I am going to be talking with the Chivas PR office tomorrow or Wednesday about connections with my blog, so look out.

Assuming the name Chivas USA is retained I would assume that the following cities would be good candidates:
San Diego
Phoenix
San Antonio
If a name change is an option than I think the following cities might make sense:
1. Philadelphia (How can the home of FC DELCO not have a pro team!)
2. Vancouver
3. Seattle
4. St. Louis
5. Atlanta
6. Raleigh or Charlotte
7. Rochester (Future Green Packers of MLS)
8. San Jose/San Fran/Oakland
MUST HAVE A NEW SOCCER SPECIFIC STADIUM WHEREVER THEY GO BEFORE MOVING!!!!!Posted from

I agree with you about soccer specific stadium as that is the root of the current problem, but I would think that the team would stay in state. Bell Gardens or Santa Ana/Orange County would be accessible. I like San Diego; that is a possibility.
Actually I really think Southern California should be looked to be the London of America, soccer wise. There is enough people and you can play off of their allegiances by placing numerous teams in the area. This is just an idea.

Someone on BS mentioned the idea of a SSS near Cal Poly Pomona was a possibility. I hope they don’t move Chivas out of southern California. I’ll stop being a fan. No sense in supporting a non-local team. This is just desperate. Sorry.

The idea of them moving out of so cal is just making me sick.

There is nothing to worry about, I do not think the owners want to move out of Southern Cali. There intention was to create a base in LA and I think that where they will be staying. For now we must think positive and keep looking forward.

Chivas is not moving out of So-Cal, nor out of LA but probably out of the Home Depot Center for all the reasons mentioned as far as loosing revenue to their enemy. Vegara doesn’t like it and he won’t stand for it for too long which is why there were numerous articles on line last fall about Chivas building a satellite facility near Cal Poly Pomona.
There is also the rumor that once Estadio Chivas in Guadalajara is finished (its nearing completion) that Vergara will focus of Estadio Chivas Norte, a smaller and similarly designed stadium near Cal Poly Pomona or at another site in the LA Metro area.
Rest assured Chivas USA is staying in the LA Area. Anyone suggesting otherwise doesn’t know Vegara (he is the one who insisted Chivas be in LA), Chivas Guadalajara or futbol en Los Angeles.

This is great news! Thank God, we are finally getting rid of you!

That is what I have been hearing, that our stadium will not be built until the one in Guadalajara is built. But like you said Chivista, Vergara does not want to move the team out of the LA area and that is what I was trying to say. All I know is that Cue is really pissed right now because of the way things have been dealt, both by AEG and the MLS. If in fact we can get out of the HDC it would be a boon for us as we can maximize our potential and really start to generate some revenue.
The jersey deal with Comex will help a little bit, but getting out of the HDC is key.
What about Orange County or Bell Gardens, could those areas be a possibility? Why not move into the Bell Gardens area where have helped build up the community soccer fields and academies?
And Kenny your just afraid that if we leave you team really will have no motivation and just continue to collapse under the weight of worthless players.

What is very telling andalso known to me is that Cue and Chivas are looking at temporary sites around the LA area where CD Chivas USA could play while a stadium is built. Such are the terms of the bad deal they have now with AEG that they are looking to go nearly anywhere that will give them better terms.
Chivas is just like any other MLS club, it wants to control its revenue and its own destiny. People who say a move is many years away are just trying to play down a much more immediate move so as to retain negotiating power.

David, if I were afraid of you guys leaving, I wouldn’t be thanking God that you are, would I. BTW, rent is due to Daddy AEG.

Chivista: It is good to hear that Cue is looking for a temp place, so as to get out of the HDC. Right now it is pathetic what AEG and the MLS are doing to us, sucking up all of our potential revenue and then claiming that the FO is doing nothing to fill the stands and support the team. How can there be support and a willingness to sell tickets, when the majority of the money goes to the MLS fat cats so as to pay for the salary of Becks.
We need to get out of the HDC and I am glad to hear that this move might be sooner than later, as the existing conditions are deplorable. If in fact we can get out, then the team will start to flourish as we will be able to use the new revenue towards players, marketing and image. At this point, we are strapped to the HDC which causing us to loose money, while not allowing us to fully market ourselves.
What Cue should be doing though is voicing this opinion into the media, so as to provide more information and support to the fans. Because if more people hear about the abuses by AEG and the MLS there will an outcry against them.

That won’t work. Not only will voicing his opinion make Cue look bad (espeacially since he signed off on renting in the first place), but no one other than Chivas fans will really care.
Just look at the complaining done by NY and Wizards fans and local soccer journalists about their situations with their NFL daddy’s (though you don’t really hear about as much as you did say five years ago). No one other than NY and Wizards fans really cared.
And I am extending the Olive Branch here, at least just for now, but I don’t think Pomona would be a good place for you guys. I would think Huntignton Park or close to that area would be ideal.Posted from

Kenny: Yeah, you’re most likely right about that. In the case of Chivas image is huge and I guess it is more up to the fans to complain than the owners, as they need to save face and be the front man for the team. I also agree with you about staying closer to the LA area. Pomona is a long drive and way outside of the LA market. If we think selling the team in the HDC is hard, let’s try doing it in a relatively unknown market. Just look at the struggle the Angles are having with Anaheim. But we do need to move, for the sake of the team’s financial health.

CDCUSA moving out of HDC to a location still in the greater LA area would be amazing. The yoke that they are under at HDC is as bad as the crap that MetroBulls go through at Giants Stadium.

It is a horrible position that the team is currently in at the HDC…..from what I have heard though, they have 2 more years on their stadium contract. What shall be interesting is to see if Cue can get out of it.
A lot of this would be alleviated if the team continues to perform this season and does well in the playoffs.
