Some Thoughts on Chivas and Why Saturday’s Win was not So Good; The Team is Falling Apart

By: David | May 28th, 2007

I hope everyone is enjoying their memorial day, I know I am. So without further avoidance let us delve into Chivas a little bit. As we all saw, Saturday was finally a step in the right direction as Chivas pulled off their first win in five games. Yes that is right, it had been five games since Chivas last won, which was over a month ago. And what a team to beat, the leader of the West, FC Dallas, in a 2-0 game that completely embarrassed the hoops. Great win right? A solid way in which to put yourself back on track, right?

Well maybe Saturday’s game was not so “magical” as we first thought. To begin with, FC Dallas came into the match with very little motivation and an attitude that seemingly blinded them, playing as if Chivas was a shit team and not worth their time. It is amazing what happens when a team goes into a game without taking their opponent seriously, they collapse and end up embarrassing themselves.

So that was one thing that held back the Hoops. But even more detrimental to the team was the fact that Carlos Ruiz was not even in the game due to a yellow-card accumulated suspesion. Thus the Hoops were already without their star player, a person that would have pressured Chivas’ defense. I know I am sounding negative again, however, this is something that was never taken into account.

It is great and all that Chivas shutout Dallas, yet this was against a weakened team who was not playing at their peak. There were numerous chances for Dallas to win the game and it was by luck that they didn’t. Chivas played a very sloppy and unimaginative soccer game, with the win only coming when Galindo scored from 30 feet out. Preki’s team still looks horrible and nothing has changed since Guevara was kicked off the team. In fact, it would seem that the team has regressed.

I am happy that Chivas won, but disappointed that the team structure that had been implemented by Bradley has dismantled by Preki. I still feel it is time to fire Preki, reevaluate the team and move towards stabilizing the squad. The direction we are going in is pathetic and it is getting to the point that I might turn my tickets in.

gly: I have heard the rumor. This is what I can say about it. The FO has stated that they are planning another big match like last year’s Barca v. Chivas match. So it could be a possibility. The only thing is everton is not the biggest of Brit teams. But it would not surprise me.
