Success in Salt Lake
By: Alex | September 23rd, 2008Chivas USA walked away with a victory on the road against Real Salt Lake.
Not the prettiest game, but a win none the less. It was a tough fight for both teams, as both teams played tight defensive soccer. The game could have gone either way, with neither team controlling the pitch.
The Good:
Lots of friendly faces on the pitch. Jesse Marsch made an appearance, a sorely missed player in the Chivas USA line up. Alex Zotinca was on the bench and played a full 90 with the reserve squad, Sacha came home from international duty, Sasha Victorine played as well. If the squad can stay healthy, the team has a chance. Ohh, and Pancho shot on goal. Yes, Pancho Mendoza. It was awesome!
The Better:
Alecko marked his third of the season, three goals in six games. Dan Kennedy took a clean sheet from RSL, important for his confidence. Dan played very well and made a few crucial saves.
The not so Good:
The officiating. What’s the deal? Twice in three games, a Chivas USA player has been struck (hit, punched or pushed deliberately) without a red card? How does that work? Jonathan Bornstein was subbed out at halftime due to a concussion. Hopefully he can get fit come Saturday. Ante looked a little tired.
Going forward:
The team made some progression in the midfield. Players are becoming healthy. If this midfield can stay healthy, the team has a shot. Jesse and Paulo’s ability to control the pace of a game is crucial. A consistent lineup is key.
Important win, but with the Western Conference so tight, the next four games are must wins.
