Superliga – Chivas USA WIN
By: Alex | July 17th, 2008Chivas USA defeated Santos Laguna 1-0 Wednesday in an important win.
Chivas USA needed the win to stay alive in the 4 team group. Chivas will take on New England on Sunday to see who advances.
Tough game, tough win. Sometimes the calls go against you (like against Pachuca), sometimes the go for you.
Ante = good
Looking ahead. Here are the standings for group B
New England Revs…………..6
Pachuca………………………3
Chivas USA…………………..3
Santos Laguna………………0
Based on last year’s rules, Chivas USA can advance one of three ways. First Chivas USA win (or draw) and Pachuca loses, Chivas USA goes forward. If Chivas USA and Pachuca win, the goal differential would take precedence. The last way is confusing and would be based on a three way draw. If Chivas USA lose and Santos wins, then there would be a three-way tie. Goal differential would come into play and both Chivas USA and Pachuca are even. If that was still even, then i think there will be a coin toss (joke… I think).
Clear as mud.

This should have been a draw. While I’m happy Chivas are still in it, I dunno if the bad referee call is going to impress our friends down south and help give Chivas USA the legitimacy they hope for from this tournament (my assumption here coming from the recent NYT interview with Suarez). Sacha and Johnny B had an excellent game and I hope the naysayers stop knocking Bournstein down. We are going to miss Sacha terribly in the coming games.

This was my first game of soccer that I been too. My husband and my sons are fans of Chivas Guadalajara and sometimes go for ChivasUSA.I don’t really care.But this Wed.July 16,08 I was very dissapointed to see this game.We where there at home depot.Seeing the referee doing every thing to help Chivas USA win was very an fair.I feel like Chivas are not that good due to the help they got from the referee and How much was he paid for him to take the goal from Santos.I know this makes no different to the player or referee that this was not won farely.I would fill ashame to say I am a Chiva Fan.Thank God I am not.When we were leaving my son gave his Chiva jacket because it was cold.I told him I was ashame to wear that around Santos or any one knowing how they won this game. Thank you

WOW! Santos the best? OK. I am sorry you had to see the game like that, but that is the way soccer is. In any league and country, refs make bad calls. You can’t blame the United States for that. If it is unfair to you, why live here? If you knew anything about the sport, you would know that it happens all the time. Don’t let your bias get in the way of common sense. I have always been a fan of FMF and have also followed MLS to a lesser extent until Chivas USA came to the league. I am also a Chivas GDL fan and a fan of El Tri. Every time our teams lose, excuses go flying quick. The ref, the field, we are in preseason, etc. etc. etc. When we win, even if it was a lucky goal or whatever, we don’t like to hear the excuses. When Chivas USA played Pachuca, we deserved to win, but we didn’t. Santos deserved to win, but they didn’t. I suggest that you watch more soccer, be it international or FMF or MLS or whatever. Watch teams you don’t like or go for, basically as a neutral, and you will see that bad calls are made everywhere. The refs for Superliga are not MLS refs, they are FIFA refs. When FMF teams play MLS teams, neutral country refs are used. Good luck!
P.S. Please don’t blame the USA for not being fair, blame life for that.
