Superliga, Schedules and Silly Conspiracy theories

By: Alex | February 7th, 2008

Chivas USA are playing in Superliga this year.

superliga.jpg“The four teams with the best regular season records in 2007 will represent the League in the second edition of SuperLiga, to be played later this summer. The teams are D.C. United, Chivas USA, Houston Dynamo and New England Revolution. The complete SuperLiga schedule and the Mexican club representatives will be announced in the coming weeks”

To some, this is not news. To me, it is. MLS officially announced it, and we are there (no trust for MLS)

With this, the official schedule has been published. Chivas will play all teams twice, except for RSL, SJ, LA and Houston. Those guys will be punished three times this season.

The schedule is as expected. July is light, probably for Superliga. August will be busy. Six games plus Champions League (I like the sound of that).

As for the conspiracy, the DON is up to it again. The Don is talking about the potential signing of a significant Mexican player.

“Sé que no tarda Antonio Cué en anunciar la contratación de un futbolista mexicano de muy alto nivel, es cuestión de tiempo. No digo que sea hoy o mañana, pero estoy seguro que pronto lo hará y será un beneficio más para la Liga”, dijo.

TRANSLATION

“I know that does not delay Antonio Cué in announcing the signing of a Mexican footballer of very high level, the question is when. I do not say that it will be today or tomorrow, but I am sure that soon he will do it and it will be a benefit for the League”.

I typically dismiss these types of rumors, and I would dismiss this one except for one thing. KornerPocket talked about Chivas USA signing someone mid season. He stated or implied that Preki would be forced to sign him, even if the team didn’t want or need him.

sanchez-2.jpgNow… how could the team sign someone if their senior roster is already full? Someone on the senior roster would have to leave (Brad). So we will need a starting goalie when Brad leaves (assuming he gets his papers). So if I do the math right, STARTING GOALIE + BIG MEXICAN NAME = OSWALDO SANCHEZ.

Or maybe this conspiracy theory is due to the lack of sleep the transfer window has caused me. Either way, give me your theories.

I was wondering if any of the pre-season games has them playing more towards my end of the State. Do you know?

I don’t think we head up that far. Santa Clarita and Dallas… thats it.

We are playing each other three times this year. Any chance I can con you into coming down for one of the games? We can sit with San Patricos.

But do people show up to see a goalie? I really like Guzan in the Rojiblanco, but pay to see a goalie? The only way Chivas is going to put butts in the seats is by signing a big name striker/midfielder.

If they want to sign Oswaldo because he is still a quality player, fine… but don’t have any dillusions that attendence is going to go up.

I still b*tch about Guadalajara becomming angry at & trading away BOFO. They could have been pissed to the high heavens, but at least have the business sense to ship him to MLS. I think people would have paid to see him play for Chivas USA! He’s a recongnizable name/face.

Bye the Bye, after watching the US-Mexico game, I have come to the following conclusion…

Landon Donovan is the C. Blanco of our MNT.

Not in style of play, not in skill level (I’ll let others argue the pros/cons of each player), but in their polarizing personalities.

To explain, I must digress. My mom is from Worstaddt, Germany, my father is Mexican-American, but no matter what the circumstances, I support the national teams in the following order: 1. USA, 2. Mexico, 3. Germany.

That being said, I strongly dislike Landon Donovan, for many of the reasons given by Mexican fans. I respect his skill, his speed, but there is just something about Lando that (now I am channeling Meg Ryan in “French Kiss”) Makes Me… COMPLETELY…. INSANE!!

Thank goodness he will never wear a Chivas USA kit!?! I don’t know what I would do!

Alex. Sorry! I missed your reply post until now.

When Chivas play up here, I will likely defect and go find the Chivas supporters and cheer with them (ssssh… don’t tell the Quakes fans).

At the end of last season my friend and I promised we’d go to a Chivas home Classico together and sit with the whichever Chivas supporters group, She’s already requested that weekend in August off from work.

As for the SanHo away games against Chivas, I haven’t thought about it at all! I’ll get back to you on that.
