The Battle for LA
By: Alex | September 11th, 2007There is no rivalry in MLS like the Galaxy vs. the Chivas USA. What started out as the established club vs. the new kids heated up quickly. It wasn’t long before the two teams were playing an equal game. Yet for some reason, the Goats couldn’t pull a victory over their flat mates. Finally the pot boiled over with the third Super Classico of the season as the Red and White won their first victory 3-0.

The Galaxy really has two teams that play the field: The first one played the thriller against the NYRBs, Pachuca, DC United (in the superliga), and the goats; the other team plays the rest of the time. Some have blamed this on injury, I blame it on mentality. The Galaxy is a tough team… if they show up. This game is nothing the Chivas should take lightly.
What should we expect? Donovan on form. He can rip apart any defense in the MLS. I assume that is why Claudio Suarez was rested on Sunday. Pavon’s success will depend on the Galaxy’s midfield.
If the Galaxy is missing Abel, they will probably have a handful with Galindo. Unfortunately for them, Panchito is on the top of his game, matching Galindo’s speed.
I could name them all individually, but I expect the Red and Whites midfield to control the pitch. If we can keep Donovan at bay, the team should lift the Super Classico title.
I expect to see a great game between the two sides. The other LA team always brings their game for the battle. I just hope the Riot Squad leave the sombreros at home.
