The Final Sprint

By: Alex | October 9th, 2007

Chivas USA are currently in 1st place in the west and second overall in the table. With three games left to play, the red and white are in a great position.

West

Chivas USA currently are in first place in their conference. The advantage in winning the western conference is about home field advantage during the MLS Cup. For those of you who don’t know how important that is, look at our home record. We are currently 3 points above Houston with a game in hand. First place looks very plausible for the Red and White, and the worst they could do is second, which still isn’t that bad.

Supporters Shield

Chivas USA are in second place in the overall race. What is out for grabs? A place in CONCACAF’s Champions Cup. The winner of this gains a spot in the Club World Cup. This will take a little luck for the Goats. The Chivas USA need to win all their games and DC United needs to lose or tie one.

Superliga

The Chivas can take a nap for the next three games and they still will get a spot in Superliga. This competition has a special spot with the Chivas due to their Mexican heritage and the opportunity to play against their sister club Chivas de Guadalajara. MLS has not identified advantages to standings since this year the games were invitational’s (friendlies).

MLS Cup

The Chivas are in the MLS Cup. The only interesting question is who they will play. As it stands right now, Chicago will face the Red and White. There is an outside chance that the Galaxy passes them in the playoff race. The Galaxy then has an opportunity to revenge the Super Classico and beat the CDCUSA where it counts. Either way, we play some tough teams.

This year has proven to be one of the best, especially for the Chivas USA.

Preki, coach of the year. If he doesn’t get it, its a crime against humanity.
