Goal.com: You have scored goals in your life, though, being a midfielder in college. What about when you were younger?

Vaughn: Growing up, I always played as either a forward or center midfielder for club and with the state team. I started out at South Carolina as a defensive midfielder as a freshman. As a sophomore, I moved to right back when there was an injury, even though the coach there felt I was better in the center of the park.

I transferred to Tulsa and played as a center midfielder the year we went to the Elite 8. As a senior, I played right back a little, too.

When I joined Chivas, I was originally playing as a center midfielder. But, honestly, I just didn’t adjust well. So they tried me out at right back. Basically, I seized it and played well. Guys like Carlos Llamosa and Suarez — albeit through a translator – have really helped me back there since making the switch. Right back still feels new to me.

Ultimately, I want to be a center midfielder, more as a defensive midfielder – a lot like where Jesse plays. I played there alongside him a few times this year, and in those games we had three good results.

When I saw the trade for Harris, I immediately saw his height (6′2″) and thought “corner target.” I also agree with your assessment of depth in the midfield. Jesse is gone at the end of ‘08 and we need to start grooming people to replace our veterans. The same needs to happen for Suarez.

This isn’t a bad move, but when are we going to see some big names moved around to us??
