The Guevara Sucks Bandwagon has Gained Another Occupant

By: David | May 1st, 2007

To continue on with today’s discussion it would seem that the Guevara SUCKS club has added a new member. Well, it is more that he has once again become more vocal in his dislike of the Honduran midfielder. Ives Galarcep posted on his blog and wrote an article for the North Jersey Herald of his relief that Guevara is no longer the Red Bulls. He then goes on to discuss about the declining play and egotistical nature of Guevara.

If you don’t think the trade was a loss for Chivas USA try asking Antonio Cue if he would give Guevara back in order to get the Designated Player slot back.

I know some of you might think I’m reveling in Guevara’s struggles, but the truth is I was hoping for a redemption story, still am actually. He isn’t a bad person at heart, just someone whose temper and ego keep him from maximizing some of the best talent in MLS. Down the stretch in 2006 I really thought he had grown up and was ready to be the superstar he can be. It appears now as if he has taken a step back.

There were a lot of us who had thought that Guevara had addressed his demons and was willing to make a clean start with Chivas. He had been quoted in numerous papers stating that he was ready to play for Chivas and be a leader on the team. Well the first four games have passed, with very little effort by Guevara, ending with Guevara shoving a ref and being sent out of the stadium on Saturday. Maybe if this was a different player we were talking about, a lot of people would give him the benefit of the doubt stating that he is just frustrated with the team change. But this is Guevara we are talking about. An athlete with the ego of Terrell Owens and like Owens, he has the power to destroy teams.

Guevara is succeeding there, as he is one of the leading factors of this team’s decline, making an ass out of himself and those around him. It is time for Guevara to decide if he wants to continue playing.

So join the growing I Hate Guevara Club, we have free cookies and possibly tee-shirts in our future.

Woot! I’ve been on this wagon since he stole the league MVP title in 2004.

Add me to the wagon. What a waste of a player and what an incredible waste of the DP slot. Seems like the Goats are turning into the Clippers of MLS.

So, who wants to make the “trade Guevara” signs for the next home game? heh.

has guevara been involved in any “team cancer-esque” moments?

lets consider the team without guevara. are we willing to go with bornstein, marsch, mendoza at mid, cunliffe/galindo @ attacking mid, razov up top (for a 4-3-2-1 formation?) blah. nevermind
who could we trade guevara for?

on a side note, with llamosa out 9 months, why do we still have this old man on the roster?

Eric, he has been indirectly in “team cancer-esque moments,” in that he was traded for a DP slot and more. This would have been different, had the team traded a lower rank player for Guevara, however, we gave away one of our “special” slots so as to obtain a player that would bring stability, leadership and talent. Well, Guevara has not brought any of this and is continuing to prove that he does not want to play. Even the coach has made comments about Guevara’s lack of play. Couple that now with his pushing of the ref, red card and possible suspension you can see why a lot of us are angry.

As for the lineup, depending on Guevara’s suspension, we shall see this weekend against DC what we could be using. But the fact is, he has been a non on the field and really will not be missed. You have mentioned a good point, in that who could we trade for Guevara. The fact is Guevara is damaged goods and what team will willing trade for him?

Gly: We have a few weeks to put it together, this weekend will be very telling….
