Transfer Speculation
By: Alex | January 7th, 2008It is no secret that Brad Guzan has drawn attention from European Clubs. The more important questions are when, who, and how much.

Chivas USA president Shawn Hunter Friday discussed the fact that European clubs have shown interest in the 24 year old. He did not disclose who. Rumors floating around link him to Olympiakos, Celtic and Arsenal.
The most important question is when. Brad will leave a big whole to fill if he goes this season. Stone Wall Preston Burpo left to San Jose last month, which would leave more questions open.
The next question is how much? Clint Dempsey broke the MLS transfer record with a 4 million dollar transfer fee. Brad is expected to break that. This would be a nice purse that could be used to bring new talent.

Said Godinez has stated he is coming to MLS. The 32 year old Mexican midfielder is currently with Tecos and looking to disclose details of his transfer in the next few days.
Chivas USA have stated a desire to hire Mexicans, plus the fact that their roster leaves them with no depth in the midfield could equate to a move to the Red and White.

Brad can’t leave until he wins the MLS cup with Chivas. I don’t know why but I’m thinking he’ll stick it out for at least one more season before taking a better offer. Okay, I coud be so wrong but I FEEL right.

I am on record for saying that Burpo’s move to SJ was a bad idea. We should have held on to Preston a little bit longer, because we all saw this coming. Or at least put in a safety clause to recall him in this case. (Am I the only one who thinks of these things?) Man United loaned a goalie away, but with a clause that he can’t play against Man U or that he can be recalled under certain circumstances.
Don’t get me wrong, I am totally happy for Brad, and I hope to see him in an Arsenal jersey soon – but we better get on the ball and pull a goalie out or are Arse!?!
And I am really looking forward to the cash that we can get for other players.
By the bye… Now that Guevara has decided that he wants to stay in Guatamala, can we have our DP slot back?

I totally agree with you guys on the goalie situation. The only thing is… when does Brads contract expire. I heard it was next year which would mean that he would leave with no compensation to the team. 4-5 million is a lot for an MLS team.
I wish Burpo would have stuck around, he would have been an adequate replacement for El Guzano.

That’s why I’m saying… Let’s make it happen! We all knew it was inevitable! So let’s go out like Arsen Wenger for a change, and make a great deal that benefits the club (can anyone say Henry & Vierra?)!
Let’s petition for our DP spot, and make some good purchases!!

To the best of my knowledge, Brad’s rookie contract expires at the end of the 2008 season. The MLS needs to get money for him if he decides he wants to accecpt the Euro offers. I don’t want to see him go, but he’s ready for Europe.
And no, PocketKings, I am not his agent.Posted from

Well, its unfortunate but I think the Quakes would gladly give TheBurpo back in exchange for Gallindo or Razov (well, maybe not Razov since the Quakes made him cry in 2003). Although, I can’t shake this thought that if SanHo didn’t grab Preston, Chivas would’ve just waived him anyways. I still don’t completely understand their (Chivas) recent purge. Ok, so there’s the “depth” issue but they certainly cut a lot of players like a month ago.
Perhaps all will be revealed in February… or March.

ELAC
You’re not still mad, are you?
Didn’t you read my last post on that thread?Besides, I totally agree with you that he is ready to play in Europe (and if that means the club can earn a large amount of compensation money for it – I say go for it!)
We could use the cash to purchase some depth for the club! (Maybe even a marquee player to attract fans).Posted from

I heard Kikin was going for $7 million, and Brad is going for $5 million. Does anyone have an extra 2 million lying around? Bake Sale?

Kikin for 7 million? That’s like paying 10 bucks for a Big Mac.
No PocketKings, I am not angry with you. It was a cheap attempt at sarcasm.Posted from

When Brad leaves we can never replace him in our heart.what if we use our only draft 08 pick to get a college goal keeper and start from scratch.

I think if Brad does go he should be replaced by a senior goalie from the MLS. Not rookies.
