Update on Guevara Trade: Chivas USA FO Denies Today’s News
By: David | May 2nd, 2007The Guevara trade rumor takes another turn, as the Chivas FO has now come out stating Guevara is not being traded. Or at least, he will be traded at a later date. In response to the LASoccernews article, the Chivas FO talked with the Orange County Register about the current Guevara situation.
Chivas USA coach Preki said today that midfielder Amado Guevara could “possibly” be traded to Toronto FC but later, in a three-way call with the team’s general manager, denied he said that.
“I wouldn’t say disappointment,” Preki said when reached by telephone to discuss an Internet report that Guevara already had been traded. “He’s a good player in this league, but I expected more from him.
“And as of now that’s all I can tell you.”
Chivas CEO and general manager Javier Leon, however, would not confirm the trade when reached by telephone.
“Amado Guevara is currently a member of our team and he’s a Chivas USA player,” Leon said. “To say any anything different is pure speculation.”
Leon was asked why Preki made such a bold statement.
“I don’t believe that Preki has said such a statement,” Leon said. “I can only tell you the facts at the moment is that Amado Guevara is a member of our team.
It would seem that there was a discrepancy between the owners and the coach, as Preki has now been voicing his opinion about Guevara. But why would the FO stop this rumor/trade? Do they have a connection to Guevara? And is this the first inkling of a fracture between the FO and Preki? Well these are just a few things to think about as the Guevara saga moves on.

Sounds like Preki might have opened his mouth too soon and the FO is trying to do damage control. I just hope this isn’t the thing that tears the CDCUSA apart.

We shall see what is going to happen, no one else has picked this up. And it is interesting that the FO went to the Orange County Register. That was the same place I found the Chivas sponsor.
Something happened, whether it was Preki opening his mouth or not….but I think the fans have spoken, Guevara needs to go. And Preki needs to watch his back!

Must be the lack of coffee talking…..or is that the lack of sleep?
But, it shall be interesting to see what is going to happen in the next few days. From what I gather, the Chivas FO was planning on a massive trade, so that they could try and recoup some of the money they have lost with Guevara.
If Preki did this, than there is a feud between him and Guevara…..now that they have to stay together this could prove to be a little more complicated.
What I think, the trade will happen in the next few days. Anytime someone comes out into the media denying a rumor that fast, it usually means it’s true. We have just seen the power of the internet in MLS.

its fairly obvious to me that this is only a delay regarding sorting out trade details. because it wasn’t finalized today (and with the word being out) tells me that the FO/Preki are just stalling with their statements.

I think the trade talk was just a ploy by Preki to light a fire under Guevara’s ass. Guevara and the front office(and I don’t mean the one in LA) have had a great relationship dating back to the days when he played with Vergara’s Costa Ricn side, Saprissa. If anybody is in danger of getting shipped out of Chivas USA it is Preki.

so now, its been said that guevara refused the trade and wont return to the MLS. we still get nagamura, but give up a draft pick instead.

That is the rumor, it would seem that Guevara wants to leave the MLS, and in doing so TFC and Chivas both get screwed.
This trade is ending up to be a real big mistake….
I’ll be back on tomorrow.
