Who Will Replace Bornstein in the Backfield? Eder Robles Could Be our Answer

By: David | May 29th, 2007

Eder Robles As everyone has most likely noticed, today is a pretty quiet day for soccer news. The day after Memorial Day, people are waking up slowly with hangovers and the realization that work must start up again. Soccer is the farthest thing from most people’s minds as they rummage around looking for the aspirin bottle and something to make the pain go away.

But do not fret, I am still here, hangover free providing you with some news and analysis on Chivas USA. I had been gone for a few weeks due to school, so now I am trying to make up for lost time. As was noted in a previous post, Chivas USA will soon be without the services of Jonathan Bornstein, due to the Gold Cup. Thus, who could possibly replace Bornstein in the back-line and provide much needed defense for the goats?

In my opinion, there is a little known youth player on the roster that has not gotten much attention and could possibly be the answer to our problems; Eder Robles. The 19 year old defender was first discovered by Chivas USA’s u-19 youth team, where he performed at an extremely high level and helped lead the team to a birth in the Copa Saprissa tournament. Following this success, Robles was offered a developmental contract and has been on the squad since 2006. In fact, Robles was a crucial part of Chivas’ 2-1 win over UC Irvine, during the off-season, when he scored both goals.

As you can see, Robles is a solid player that would help to bolster the Chivas backfield and could potentially be a future star for the team. Understandably, Robles is still very young and has a lot to learn, yet there is no harm in trying to exploit his talent for the benefit of the team.

I have decided that I will be trying to create a few future posts detailing the background of the youth players on Chivas USA.
